In honor of BAP’s comeback after their grueling year-long hiatus and legal struggle, I’ve decided to write my first post in 2.5 years! I just had so many thoughts and emotions running through my body when I was watching this video that I felt compelled to put it on paper. Or wordpress. Whatever.
Did you guys like that segue in the title? Yeah, I thought it was pretty good too.
This is just about the one-year anniversary of KPWOP. We know we’ve been bad lately, but never fear – this blog has NOT been abandoned. The K-pop fever is alive and well in our hearts and the world, and we intend to keep sharing it with you all. We’re going to try out a slightly new format, as well. Fresh year, fresh format!
OK – so let’s get started with TOP’s long-awaited solo venture after “Turn it Up”. Interestingly enough, that video was also in black and white. I can’t complain, I find that the man looks beautiful in monochrome and in full color. But let’s be real here – the video is a little creepy, is it not? I’m going to try to parse out some of the imagery and symbolism, intentional or not, with my uncultured brain.
The boys are back – for the millionth time! I know they must be tired, but their suffering is worth the enjoyment of all of us K-pop fans… right? (Yes.)
So at the behest of their record company, they come out with their next promotional release, “Coffee Shop”, a leisurely, romantic tune that is accompanied by a tranquil video with a comfortable Instagram-esque filter.
This is “Walden”.
So many k-pop songs have come and gone since the last ‘hotpot’, and most have faded away into the abyss without even a second glance. What songs were good enough to break through and make the list this month?
After almost 2 long long long years, 2PM has finally come back with another Korean promotion *cue party paraphernalia*! With an album entitled “Grown”, it’s obvious that 2PM is trying to portray a manlier image this time around.
In my opinion, “A.D.T.O.Y” does a deliciously good job of this.
Introducing….THE HOTPOT SERIES!!
Since life has gotten busier and I haven’t been able to post nearly as much as I would like, I have decided to start posting my current playlist of favorite trending k-pop songs, because well, since they’re songs that I like they all deserve to be mentioned on this blog (but unfortunately, we just don’t have the time to review all of them!). Moreover, not every great k-pop song has a music video that’s worth talking about, so some of those might find their heyday here as well. Hotpots will be posted every now and then, as waves of comebacks and debuts find their way to the stage and battle for my heart. Of course, any and all songs listed may still get reviewed..just know that if they’re by me they’ll most likely be absolutely glowing.
Without further ado, here are the newest k-pop songs that have made it onto my top favorites k-pop playlist!
This music video is a travesty.
It is really hard for something to be both boring and really unlikeable at the same time, but I think “Expect” has succeeded in this regard. The trick is to use a bunch of K-pop clichés, but also use them very ham-handedly like this video has. Add in a really poorly choreographed and executed dance routine and you have yourself a recipe for FAILURE. Literally. (Spoiler alert: I gave the video an F, and everyone knows my opinion matters a lot to Korean entertainment executives, so don’t take this lightly.)
