Comeback: BAP’s “Young Wild and Free”

In honor of BAP’s comeback after their grueling year-long hiatus and legal struggle, I’ve decided to write my first post in 2.5 years! I just had so many thoughts and emotions running through my body when I was watching this video that I felt compelled to put it on paper. Or wordpress. Whatever.

COMEBACK: BAP’s “Coffee Shop”

The boys are back – for the millionth time! I know they must be tired, but their suffering is worth the enjoyment of all of us K-pop fans… right? (Yes.)

So at the behest of their record company, they come out with their next promotional release, “Coffee Shop”, a leisurely, romantic tune that is accompanied by a tranquil video with a comfortable Instagram-esque filter.

This is "Walden".

This is “Walden”.

Hotpot: May 16th 2013

So many k-pop songs have come and gone since the last ‘hotpot’, and most have faded away into the abyss without even a second glance.  What songs were good enough to break through and make the list this month?

Comeback: B.A.P’s “One Shot”

Words cannot describe how excited I was for this comeback.  B.A.P has proven again and again that they are one of the most versatile groups out there, consistently throwing out some of the most intricate choreography and chilling vocals I have ever experienced.  Each member has so much talent, from Bang and Zelo’s powerful rapping, Youngjae and Daehyun’s amazing voices, Himchan’s charisma and instrumental background, and Jongup’s incredible dancing; they just bring such a vibrant energy to everything they do (and they do A LOT).  More importantly though, the members are also extremely involved in the creative process for many of their songs and lyrics, something that is so rare in the k-pop industry and really deserves to be respected.  And I mean COME ON, I have never seen beauty so highly concentrated in one area before.  B.A.P IS JUST ON FIREEEE.

That being said, did “One Shot” live up to these high expectations?

Comeback: B.A.P’s “Rain Sound”

BAP may be rookies, but they seem like veterans of the game with their THIRD promotion already. Man – these guys must be tired! And schizophrenic, apparently, because each promotion has packaged with it a completely different personality and image, starting with the aggressive “Warrior”, leading to the aegyo – I shudder when I use that term – “Stop It”, and now the tormented and quietly violent “Rain Sound”. (Note: another word for that is “Emo”.) So what’s the consensus?

Comeback: Secret’s “Talk That”

This is an improvement from Secret’s previous video, “Poison”. But if I’m honest, I would probably rank “Poison” only just below Hyuna’s “Ice Cream” on the scale of how much it enrages me.

The thing about this song/music video is that I think it tries to be something it’s not. But in the middle of some kind of symbolic, artistic set, the director/etc. realized it was hopeless and abandoned that idea altogether maybe halfway through. Basically, they took one look at the girls’ boobs and decided that those were gonna be the star.
